Kristin was born and raised a Prairie girl, spending a majority of her life in Winnipeg MB. Having a love for travel and helping others, she moved with her husband to India in 2010. They spent two years learning the culture, building community and assisting various humanitarian efforts, including empowering women at a local women's shelter. After two years abroad, they learned the exciting news that they were pregnant with their first child, and decided to move back to Canada to be close to family.
In 2014, shortly after the birth of their second child, they settled in Kelowna BC.
With a passion for women's health and wanting a career that allowed her to inspire and motivate people towards autonomy and empowered birth, she pursued a career as a birth doula and childbirth educator.
As a mother of three, she understands that how you feel about your birth affects how you experience the postpartum transition. It is because of this that she is passionate about equipping families with the tools, resources and expertise so they feel confident as they transition into parenthood.
She wants to create a safe space in which to serve women in the exploration of their birth options, truly listening with an unbiased ear, and being the encouraging, reassuring presence throughout the prenatal and birthing process.
Her philosophy
Her journey
Kristin believes that birth is a normal, natural, and healthy process, and that every individual should have the opportunity to:
-
Be an active participant in their care through informed choice (which includes informed consent and informed refusal);
-
Give birth as they wish, in an environment where they feel nurtured and secure, with their emotional well-being, privacy, and personal preferences respected;
-
Receive support to make informed decisions that align with what they feel is best for themselves and their baby.
Kristin is deeply inspired by the term 'holding space', as it encapsulates much of what she strives to do in her work; being present, without agenda, without judgment. It’s about creating a space where clients feel safe, honoured, and truly heard.
Kristin is a DONA-certified birth doula, Lamaze-certified childbirth educator, and grief and loss coach, committed to continuous learning and growth. She is an active member of the birthing community, serving as an antenatal educator at a local maternity clinic and serves on the board of the Doula Services Association of BC as the Interior Regional Representative.
When Kristin isn’t supporting families, you can often find her exploring the outdoors, learning about dinosaurs, or doing crafts with her three wonderful children—Jonah (12), Sophie (10), and Ezra (8). Family life is her heartbeat, inspiring her commitment to the families she serves every single day.
