Looking back, I can see a thread woven through my life long before I became a doula.
Living abroad gave me opportunities to be present with women navigating incredibly difficult circumstances, including time spent with a women's shelter in India. It was there that I began to understand the power of presence; not having all the answers, but simply being with someone in whatever they were carrying.
Later, while living in the Philippines, I had the opportunity to shadow a midwife friend in a small village clinic.
It was there that I witnessed birth for the very first time.
It was powerful, raw, and deeply sacred.
I left that room knowing I had witnessed something extraordinary, not simply the birth of a baby, but the quiet unfolding of a family. I saw the incredible strength of a woman, and I experienced firsthand how calm, compassionate support could completely shape a birth experience.
Years later, when I crossed that same threshold myself with the birth of our son, Jonah, that same midwife friend stood beside me again, this time as my doula.
Along with my husband, she offered the steady, compassionate presence every birthing person deserves. Experiencing birth from that place of trust, safety, and unwavering support transformed me. It deepened my understanding of just how profoundly a doula can impact not only the birth itself, but the way a family remembers the beginning of their story.
Looking back, I can see that each of those experiences was preparing me for this work.
They taught me that people rarely need someone to rescue them. More often, they need someone who will remain steady in the unknown, listen without judgment, and remind them that they are capable of finding their way.
Becoming a doula wasn't a sudden decision
It felt like the natural continuation of a path I had already been walking.
Today, I have the privilege of walking alongside families as they cross this sacred threshold. I believe birth is deeply personal, and every family deserves care that honours their values, respects their autonomy, and leaves them feeling informed, seen, and empowered.
For me, this work is about offering a calm, steady presence as you navigate pregnancy, birth, and the transition into parenthood.
Sometimes that means exploring your options together, offering hands-on comfort during labour or simply sitting quietly beside you, creating space to breathe, process, and trust yourself.
My hope is that no matter how your story unfolds, you leave this season feeling seen, respected,
and deeply cared for.
