What Does a Doula Cost in Kelowna? (And What You’re Really Paying For)

The cost of doula support in Kelowna typically ranges from $1200 to $2,000+, depending on experience, scope of services, and what’s included in a package.
But what you’re investing in is not just time spent in your birth space.
You’re investing in continuity of care, preparation, and presence throughout your entire journey.

What Doula Support Actually Includes
1. Prenatal Preparation
Before labour even begins, we spend time getting to know you.
This often includes:
Conversations about your preferences and goals
Education around the physiology of birth
Exploring your options in a way that supports informed decision-making
Preparing your partner for how to support you
This is where so much of the foundation is built.
2. Ongoing Support During Pregnancy
From the moment you hire a doula, you are not navigating this alone.
You have:
A consistent point of contact
A space to ask questions as they come up
Support in processing appointments, information, or unexpected changes
3. On-Call Availability
Doulas are typically on call for your birth starting around 37–38 weeks.
This means:
Being available 24/7
Adjusting personal schedules and commitments
Holding space for the unknown timing of labour
This level of availability is a significant part of the investment.
4. Continuous Labour Support
When labour begins, your doula is with you whenever you call them for support.
During that time, your doula is:
Supporting you physically with comfort measures
Helping you stay grounded and oriented
Supporting your partner so they can be present in a way that feels sustainable
Advocating and creating space for you to make informed decisions
5. Immediate Postpartum Support
After your baby is born, your doula doesn’t simply leave.
There is often time spent:
Supporting initial feeding
Helping you settle
Ensuring you feel stable and supported in those first moments
6. Postpartum Follow-Up
In the days or weeks after birth, your doula reconnects with you.
This may include:
Processing your birth experience
Offering emotional support
Answering questions as you adjust to postpartum life
In home visit to help with breastfeeding, newborn care, light housekeeping, baby wearing, etc
Why This Work Is Structured as a Package
One of the reasons doula care is offered as a package rather than hourly is because birth is unpredictable.
There is no way to schedule:
When labour will begin
How long it will last
What kind of support you will need
Your investment reflects being held through all of it. Whether that means 8 hours at your birth or 15
A Different Way to Think About Cost
Instead of asking only “What does a doula cost?”
It can be helpful to also ask:
What kind of support do I want during this time?
How do I want to feel during my birth?
What would it mean to have consistent, trusted support throughout my pregnancy?
How do I want to remember my experience?
Because this is what doula care is centred around. At Nurtured Nest, my approach to doula care is shaped by both training and experience. As a certified birth doula, childbirth educator, and grief and loss coach, I support clients with a depth of understanding that honours both the physical and emotional aspects of this time. I do not step into a clinical role. Instead, I offer steady, informed support that helps you understand your options, feel prepared, and stay connected to your own voice throughout your experience. My role is to create space where you feel supported, respected, and able to move through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum in a way that feels aligned.
Final Thoughts
Doula support is not just about the day you give birth.
It's about how you are supported leading up to it, how you are held within it, and how you are cared for as you move into postpartum.
And that kind of care is not something that can be measured in hours alone.
